Bradford-upon-Avon

Bradford on Avon deserves a few meanders through the old town and along the river.

An 11th century Tythe Barn of considerable historic interest, is open daily together with adjacent craft barns, small shops and cafes. St Lawrence’s Church – 7th Century Saxton Church - is just across the footbridge over the river. Nearby pretty villages of Turleigh, Winsley and Freshford are worth a visit.

The library acroos the bridge on the left is a mine of local information. The medieval village of Steeple Ashton, 4 miles away, has classical timber framed dwellings and a beautiful Church.

Museum of Georgian Life, No1, The Royal Crescent

Only 7 miles away is the Georgian City of Bath although its origins date to Roman Times. The Abbey, the Roman Baths, the Pump Room (for morning coffee), the Costume Museum, the Georgian Crescents, The Circus, squares and many parks are a must.

The Royal Crescent is the masterpiece of Georgian Architecture. See the Georgian Museum at No 1, the Theatre, Spa Complex, fine shops to include many antique markets, pubs, restaurants and walkside cafes provide much to do and see.

A renowned Horse Race Course at Lansdown has occasional meetings. The Bath Music Festival in May/June runs over three weeks. Check with the Tourist Office for dates.

Parking in Bath is difficult. The best car parks are the Charlotte Street and the Victoria Park Car Park accessed from Queen’s Square or Marlborough Buildings. Consider the train. There are frequent trains from Bradford on Avon to Bath. From Bath Station take a taxi to The Royal Crescent and The Circus and walk down through the City from there.

Far Canal Buffs, the Kennet and Avon Canal runs by. Long boats can be hired, as can bikes to ride along the towpaths.

An Activities Pack is provided in the property for detailed information.
