The Peak District
was the first National Park to be set
up in the United Kingdom. It comprises
many square miles of exquisite natural
beauty.
Mountains, gorges, streams,
rivers, lakes and valleys, pretty stone
villages, hill farms and stone walls have
been carefully preserved for the enjoyment
of outdoor life.
For the active, walking,
hiking, horse riding and trekking, rock
climbing and cycling are abundantly
available to suit all expectations. Do
not forget the walking boots or be prepared
to hire. Cycles can be hired locally and
used on the famous Tissington
Trail.
All walks are well
sign- posted – we provide the maps.
If you just want to relax, we’ll
offer suggestions for quiet spots where
nature and the elements can wash over
you.
The mountains of the
Peak District are either sandstone or
limestone. In times afore minerals were
mined such as lead and silver. There are
still a number of quarries and one or
two fluorspar mines.
Well Dressings
are a particular feature of the Derbyshire
Villages in the Summer months when they
are dressed with intricate pictures of
flowers and blessed in a local ceremony.
