Peak District walks and walking holidays

Dovedale

The Peak District was the first National Park to be set up in the United Kingdom. It comprises many square miles of exquisite natural beauty.

Mountains, gorges, streams, rivers, lakes and valleys, pretty stone villages, hill farms and stone walls have been carefully preserved for the enjoyment of outdoor life.

For the active, walking, hiking, horse riding and trekking, rock climbing and cycling are abundantly available to suit all expectations. Do not forget the walking boots or be prepared to hire. Cycles can be hired locally and used on the famous Tissington Trail.

Bakewell

All walks are well sign- posted – we provide the maps. If you just want to relax, we’ll offer suggestions for quiet spots where nature and the elements can wash over you.

The mountains of the Peak District are either sandstone or limestone. In times afore minerals were mined such as lead and silver. There are still a number of quarries and one or two fluorspar mines.

Well Dressings are a particular feature of the Derbyshire Villages in the Summer months when they are dressed with intricate pictures of flowers and blessed in a local ceremony.

:: Location ::

The Peak District is accessed from the M1 Motorway through Exit 29 via Chesterfield. Follow the signs to Baslow and Chatsworth House from Chesterfield city centre. From the M6 Motorway exit to Buxton through Stoke-on-Trent and follow the signs for Bakewell.

When you carefully inspect the cottages, farms and stonewalls in surrounding fields they will reflect the local sandstone or limestone.

Haddon Hall

Numerous Old Stately Homes such as Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Eyam Hall are open daily throughout most of the year offering a fare of conducted tours, music, concerts and festivals and country fares.

Ladybower

An endless list of cottage cookeries, pubs, restaurants and fine dining in historic places savours all palates. Country Stores sell ingredients or whole meals for party cook-ins.

The most important small market towns and villages are Bakewell, Hathersage, Ashbourne, Eyam, Tideswell, Castleton, Foolow, Ashford-in-Water, Hartington and Buxton Spa Town.
