The Industrial Revolution started in England in the 18th Century by the construction of a number of cotton mills in what is now the Peak District using abundantly available waterpower.

Cressbrook Mill

These mills have long since ceased to function, but their sturdy structures remain.

Most have been recently renovated into apartment complexes of outstanding quality. Situated adjacent to running fresh water, they are positioned on sites of outstanding natural beauty.

The Monsal Dale Apartment is within the Wye Mill part of the Cressbrook Mill complex. On the hillside to the rear of the mill is the hamlet of Cressbrook, made up of a few rows of stone cottages where the mill workers once lived.

It is now a thriving local community. Cressbrook Hall, the home of the original mill owners, remains in private ownership but is open for visits and functions.

Lounge/Dining Room

The Cressbrook Mill conversion rates as one of the most beautiful renovations of a historic site in the Peak District. There is ready access to Bakewell, the centre of the Northern peaks, surrounding villages, Chesterfield and Sheffield. Buxton Spa Town is 20 minutes away.

The apartment has a 5 Star rating with the English Tourist Board.

Situated at the top of a deep gorge called Monsal Dale only four miles from Bakewell Market Town. The river Wye runs through the development. A backdrop of shear limestone foots a lake which formerly gave the water a head of pressure to drive the mill machinery turbines (still in place).

Sitting/ Dining Room
Main Bedroom

The Apartment faces south down the valley. Steep walls flank the gorge, covered in grass, sheep or trees. The morning sun beams into all rooms. The river meanders along the valley floor – take an early morning walk with the dew on your feet listening to the sound of water on the limestone cobbles.

The site now beautifully landscaped adds to a panorama you hardly believed existed.
